By the early 1970s, Jefferson Airplane was winding down. Kantner, Slick, and David Freiberg (who had joined Airplane in its later years) collaborated on albums like ''Sunfighter'' (1971) and ''Baron von Tollbooth & the Chrome Nun'' (1973). The band's debut album, ''Dragon Fly'' (1974), went gold and included the contribution "Caroline" from Marty Balin, who rejoined full-time in 1975. Balin's return marked the start of the group's most successful era.
