About Musician Wiki
[edit]Musician Wiki is a free, independently run encyclopaedia of popular music, hosted at musician.wiki. It covers artists, bands, genres, record labels, venues, and the cultural history of popular music from the early twentieth century to the present day.
The wiki is built and maintained by music enthusiasts as a passion project, with no commercial backing, advertising, or editorial agenda. All content is written to be accurate, well-sourced, and readable by anyone with an interest in music — whether casual listener or dedicated scholar.
What We Cover
[edit]Musician Wiki aims to document popular music in its full breadth, with particular depth in:
- Rock and its subgenres — from early rock and roll and blues-rock through psychedelia, progressive rock, punk, post-punk, alternative, and indie
- Electronic music — including house music, progressive house, techno, ambient music, and rave culture
- Soul, funk, and R&B — tracing the lineage from gospel and rhythm and blues through Motown, soul, funk, and contemporary R&B
- Hip hop — artists, producers, labels, and the cultural movements surrounding the genre
- Jazz — including classic jazz, bebop, free jazz, and jazz fusion
- Folk and country — roots music traditions across the United Kingdom and North America
- Record labels, venues, and scenes — the infrastructure and geography of popular music history
This scope continues to grow as contributors add new pages. If a musician, band, genre, label, or cultural movement has shaped popular music, it belongs here.
Our Approach
[edit]Pages on Musician Wiki are written in a consistent encyclopaedic style — factual, neutral in tone, and focused on musical significance rather than promotional language. We aim to document not just what artists recorded but the context in which they worked: the scenes they emerged from, the collaborators they drew on, and the influence they left behind.
Where possible, pages are cross-linked to related artists, genres, and labels, so that readers can follow threads of musical influence naturally across the wiki.
Contributing
[edit]Musician Wiki welcomes contributions from anyone with accurate knowledge and a willingness to write in a clear, encyclopaedic style. If you would like to add a page, expand an existing one, or correct an error, please read the editing guidelines before you begin.
When writing or editing pages, please:
- Write in a neutral, factual tone — avoid promotional or fan-site language
- Cross-link to other pages on the wiki wherever relevant using [[double brackets]]
- Cite sources where possible, particularly for dates, chart positions, and biographical details
- Follow the formatting conventions established in existing pages
