===Early Career and Songwriting (2004–2009)===
After moving to Los Angeles, Mars signed with [[Motown Records]] but was dropped before releasing any material. He then began working as a songwriter and producer, co-writing hits for other artists. As a member of the production trio [[The Smeezingtons]], he co-wrote songs for artists such as [[Adam Levine]], [[Brandy (singer)|Brandy]], and [[Flo Rida]]. He gained wider attention for co-writing and featuring on [[B.o.B]]'s "[[Nothin' on You]]" and [[Travie McCoy]]'s "[[Billionaire (song)|Billionaire]]" in 2010.
