=== Commercial Peak (1974β1978) === The band's debut album, ''Dragon Fly'' (1974), went gold and included the contribution "Caroline" from Marty Balin, who rejoined full-time in 1975. Balin's return marked the start of the group's most successful era. ''Red Octopus'' (1975) became their biggest hit, topping the Billboard 200 and achieving multi-platinum status, driven by Balin's ballad "Miracles," a Top 10 single. The lineup at this time included Kantner (rhythm guitar/vocals), Slick (vocals), Balin (vocals), Freiberg (vocals/keyboards/bass), Chaquico (guitar), Sears (bass/keyboards), Barbata (drums), and Creach (violin). Creach left in 1975 for a solo career. Subsequent albums maintained strong sales: * ''Spitfire'' (1976) β Platinum, featuring "With Your Love." * ''Earth'' (1978) β Platinum, with hits "Count on Me" and "Runaway." Balin left in 1978, and Slick departed temporarily around the same period due to personal issues.
